Genevieve Lee Clements, 28, of Franklin, NC and Lebanon, CT passed away far too soon April 26, 2024. She was born May 4, 1995, in Hartford CT to James and Paula Clements.
As a youth in Lebanon, CT, Genny was very active in sports and all things music. She attended the Clara Barton Camp in Oxford, MA and later became a Camp Counselor there. She was an Honor Student at Lyman Memorial High School and played on the Women’s Varsity volleyball team, often singing the Star Spangled Banner at home games. She was also cast in large roles in multiple Music Theater productions.
Genny holds a Masters Degree in Music Theater Vocal Pedagogy from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford with a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice. After graduation, she served as a Music Director for the New Haven Academy of Performing Arts in East Haven, CT teaching voice and piano, and directed over 30 musicals and cabarets. She was also on staff at Summitt Studios in Manchester, CT as a voice and piano teacher.
Genny was an accredited Teacher of Voice through IVTOM (International Voice Teachers of Mix) as well as having studied Estill Voice Training.
She sang with the Cathedral of St. Joseph Schola Cantorum in Hartford, and was a founding member of the acapella group “Uprising”.
Most recently she was an Assistant Professor of Vocal Performance at the Western Carolina University School of Stage and Screen in Cullowhee, NC.
Genny’s energy and vibrancy were contagious. She had the uncanny ability to conjure up baked goods at the drop of a hat. Genny was an arbiter of taste and loved to help those looking to get involved in the Arts. She was an enthusiastic fan of Dinosaurs, Dragons, and Griffons, and most of all she loved hiking the Carolina Mountains with her faithful pooch Pippa.
In addition to her parents, Genny is survived by a brother, James and his fiancee Natalie, and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many, many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Genny’s name to The Barton Center for Diabetes Education at bartoncenter.org, or to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
