George Robert Gibson

Franklin, NC - George Robert Gibson, age 89, of Franklin, NC, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014. He was born in Macon County, the son of the late Joseph and Mamie Jones Gibson. He was a loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather. He liked to dig ginseng, listen to bluegrass gospel music, build houses and chew tobacco. He was Baptist by faith.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margie Marie Hooper Gibson; two daughters, Shirley Gibson Jennings and husband Vance, and Mary Elizabeth Gibson Wiggins and husband Jim all of Franklin, NC; four sons, J. D. Gibson and wife Helen, R. L. Gibson, Isaac Gibson and wife Freda and Bobby Gibson all of Franklin, NC; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Byda Angel, three brothers, Lex, Harley and Ray Gibson; and two granddaughters, Heather and Ashley Jennings.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 4th at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. L. E. Angel , Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. Alton Dendy officiating. Burial will be in Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Gibson, Caleb Gibson, Tanner Gerber, Brannon Gerber, Chris Gerber and Andy Cope.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday evening at Bryant Grant Funeral Home.
