Highlands - Gibson Jefferson McConnaughey died in Highlands, North Carolina on May 2, 2009 after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Cary McConnaughey. She is survived by her sons, Jefferson and Joseph McConnaughey, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Barksdale McConnaughey.
Mrs. McConnaughey was the author of a cookbook, Two Centuries of Virginia Plantation Cooking, that went through multiple printings. She was also author of several abstracts of Amelia County, Virginia deed books that were well-regarded in genealogical circles.
The Burial Office will be read for Mrs. McConnaughey Thursday, May 6, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Highlands, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Highlands Cashiers Hospital or to Chestnut Hill of Highlands.
Bryant-Grant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
