Gladys Marie Mcconnell

Franklin - Gladys Marie McConnell, 87, of Franklin passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Born in Rabun County, GA she was the daughter of the late Marion S. and Leona N. McClure Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lyman McConnell, who died July 21, 1989.

Gladys was a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother who always had a beautiful smile. She was a member of Black Mountain Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Beatrice Marie Carpenter of Franklin; two sons, Donald Hugh McConnell and wife Kathy of Franklin, and George Rondall McConnell and wife Kenny of Marietta, GA; a brother, Marion Thomas, Jr. of Hiawassee, GA; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Gene McConnell; a son in law, James Carpenter; a sister, Edna Blanche Prince; two brothers, Porter Thomas and M. L. Thomas and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 16, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Black Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Cannon, Rev. Mike McConnell and Rev. Bryan Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:00 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
