Franklin, NC - Grace Setser Harrison, of the Franklin area, passed away Sunday the 21st of September at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Born April 16, 1932, Grace was a life long resident of Franklin, North Carolina. She met her husband, Wayne Harrison, at an early age and became childhood sweet hearts for years before they were married in October, 1950. Grace retired from the Macon County School System where she served as a school secretary for 27 years. During her time there, Grace touched the lives of countless children offering hugs when they felt alone, a smile when they were feeling sad, a hot lunch if they were hungry, or a prayer if they needed guidance. In so many ways, Grace served as mom when mom couldn't be there.
School children weren't the only ones who benefited from Grace's loving and nurturing personality. Grace was known to open her heart and home to friends and strangers from near and far on a regular basis. Whether it was to offer a delicious home cooked meal, a cozy warm bed, or a bit of laughter where there might have otherwise been none, Grace's home was a small piece of heaven in Wayah Valley. Her gifts of service and hospitality will be missed by many.
When she wasn't helping those at home, she could be found traveling throughout the country. When Grace was younger, she and her late husband Wayne Harrison, would spend weeks exploring the fifty states, as well as other countries. Right up until the end, Grace enjoyed traveling both alone and with friends.
Grace was a renaissance woman, of sorts. Her interests and areas of expertise were broad. She loved art, music, food, and travel. During her travels she loved to strike up conversations with locals, often resulting in friends from all over the world with whom she kept in contact.
Grace is survived by her children, Mac and Cindy Harrison, Betsi Harrison, and Janet Harrison and Steven Crispin; her grandchildren Michelle Tallent, Tara and Mike Parrish, Paige Harrison and Jason Harrison, Wayne Harrison and Sarah Huebler, Margo and Steve Pledge, Ben and Jordan Holt, Apryl and Chris Koch, Jared Ogle, and Savannah Ogle; great grandchildren Aaron, Dawson, Zane, Keriston, Kaylee, Will, McKenzie, Emma, Addison, Hannah Grace, Karra and Evey. Grace is also survived by three sisters, one brother and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday September 26, 2014. The family will begin receiving family and friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. The Celebration Service will be at 3:00pm at Memorial United Methodist Church in Franklin, North Carolina.
