Gwen Earl Howard

Gwen Earl Howard (Pops), 77, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016.  Mr. Howard was born October, 5, 1938 to the late Luther Young and Georgia Howard Young.  Mr. Howard was a native of Macon County and worked as a railroad conductor- brakeman for Southern Railroad.  He enjoyed high school sports and frequently volunteered his time.  He was an active member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Howard was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1956-1959.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends having a servants heart helping those in need.

Mr. Howard is survived by two daughters, Robyn Keener (Danny) of Franklin, NC and Rhonda Phillips (Mike) of Westminster, MD; eight grandchildren, John Howard, April Tippett, Jessica Houston, Daniel Sanders, Jake Phillips, Brady Phillips, Luke Phillips, and Aaron Keener; five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Hoagland, Lola Houston, Sloan Houston, Saulyer Sanders, and Zayden Sanders.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Howard and a sister, Betty Jean Young.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M.  Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Rogers and Rev. Gary McDaniel officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 23, at Bryant- Grant Funeral Home.  Pallbearers will be John Howard, Danny Keener, Daniel Sanders. Jake Phillips, Brady Phillips, and Aaron Keener.
