Franklin - Hal Hawley Mahuron, age 84, Franklin, NC passed away Monday, September 22, 2008 at a local nursing home. He was born in Seward Co., KS, the son of N.B. and Mabel Reed Mahuron. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. Hal was a Captain in the 186th Combat Infantry Division. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Bronz Star, and the Southern Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. Following the Enola Gay and the bombing of Hiroshima, Hal arrived in Hiroshama three weeks later as part of the Occupational Forces.

Hal was part of the NASA project in 1969 in America’s successful landing a man on the moon. He was an employee of General Electirc for thirty five years. He served on the Boards of Elders in various Christian churches and organizations throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Myers Mahuron; one daughter, Lisa Mostrom and husband, Dr. Paul Mostrom of Ballston Spa; NY, one son, Mark Alan Mahuron and wife Beverly of Orlando, FL; one sister, Rebecca Ann Petty of Liberal, KS. He is survived by four grandchildren as well.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 4 at 2:00 PM at the First Alliance Church with Rev. Mitch Schultz and Larry & Susan Pons officiating. The VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will perform complete military rites at the Presbyterian Columbarium, White Oak Street, Franklin, NC.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 4 from 1:00-2:00 PM, one hour prior to service at the First Alliance Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christian Traning Center International(C.T.C.I.), 234 Watchman Lane, Franklin, NC 28734.

Bryant-Grant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
