Harold Hooks Moore, Sr

Asheville NC - Harold Hooks Moore, Sr., 79, of Asheville, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 22, 2014, at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.

A native of Smithfield, NC, Mr. Moore was a son of the late Calvin and Addie Pollard Moore. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Powell, and brother, Horace Elvin Moore.

Mr. Moore was a graduate of Wake Forest University, where he played baseball. Mr. Moore was a member of the 1955 team that won the NCAA National Championship, the only team from the ACC thus far to do so. Following graduation from Wake Forest, he played baseball professionally in the minor leagues.

Mr. Moore retired from Wachovia Bank after 44 years, but remained very active with various social and civic groups. He was a past President of the Asheville Jaycees, and was a member of Biltmore Forest Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. Mr. Moore had been a member and served as deacon at First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Dunham "Pat" Moore; son, Harold H. "Hal" Moore, Jr., and wife Sandy and their daughters, Jacquelyn and Addie; daughter, Elizabeth Moore, and her children, Leah Moore and Wesley Waldroop; daughter, Terry Moore Farias and husband Miguel and her children, Brandi Patton, Courtney Moore, Miriam Farias, and Olivia Farias; son, Patrick Moore (Daphne Griffin) and his sons, Austin and Aaron; sister, Tillie Edwards; brother, Hugh Frank Moore; sister-in-law, Derle Moore; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Walker, and Allison Vigus. Ruck Shaw Patton, Noah Farias, Zoe Moore, and one on the way.
