Franklin, NC - Harry Ray Mulkey, 79, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Angel Medical Center. He was a native of Cherokee County, the son of the late Josephin Standberry Mulkey and Stanley Mulkey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Jack and Wallace "Shug" Mulkey and three sisters, Mary Nell Moore, Ruth Ford and Sue Pangburn. He was a member of Erwin, Tenn., First Baptist Church. He served in the Merchant Marines.

He was a man of talent, great talent, a lifelong guitarist and singer, having a band of his own for many years traveling over the U.S., Canada and Alaska and made many records.

He is survived by three children; a son, Stanley Ray Mulkey of Honolulu, Hawaii; two daughters, Sharida Cox of Archer, FL and Lori Rae of Honolulu, Hawaii. Four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. To all the people he knew near and far, he wished to say "Farewell" and to his loved one, "Vaya Con Dios" (Go with God).
