Helen "Lucy" Lucille (Frink) Frey

Helen Lucille Frey, 91, of Highlands, NC went home to be with the Lord, September 1, 2017.

Mrs. Frey was born August 4, 1926 in Tampa Fl. to the late William S. Frink and Katherine Mae Lewis Frink. She was married to the late Leo Alfred “Buddy” Frey.

She married Buddy in 1945, after his return from the war, and for several years they lived on a lovely lake in Odessa, Fl. They developed a close friendship there with neighbors Eliseo and Irene Hernandez, a friendship that would last for decades. The two couples bowled together on various leagues and brought home several trophies. They also spent many happy evenings playing cards, one of Lucy’s favorite simple pleasures. Her days were also busy, though, with raising six children, long, summer days playing on the lakeshore with them, and—once all the young ones were in school—quiet afternoons sewing and painting in her studio.

In 1974, the Freys moved to the mountain town of Cashiers, NC. Sold on the beauty of the area, friends Irene and Eliseo soon followed. Lucy, along with Irene, again took up bowling and joined several teams. Over the years, she and Irene were an award-winning duo. For nearly two decades the ladies bowled at Franklin Lanes, competing in tournaments and winning several more trophies. In her later years, Lucy retired from bowling and spent more time gardening and crocheting.

Survivors include two daughters, Dawn Cramer (Harley) of Swanton, Ohio and Heather Blanton (Carl) of Apex, NC; and two sons, Bill Brewer of Franklin, NC and Robin Frey of Live Oak, FL; a sister, June Lazzara of FL and a brother, Percy Frink of FL; fourteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Lucy was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Moss, and two sons, Valiant Frey and Forest Frey.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the Cashiers Church of God with the Rev. Nathan Moss, Ralph Campbell, and David Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Evitt Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Cashiers Church of God.
