Helen Christine Nix Lowe

July 7, 1940-September 13, 2026

Christine Lowe (86) passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, at Chestnut Hill Assisted Living in Highlands, NC. She was born on July 7,1940 in Rabun County, Georgia. Christine was the daughter of the late Dewey Nix and Lillian Owens Nix. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Nix Wilson and Bruce Monroe Nix.

She is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, William Joseph Lowe, daughters Rhonda Lowe (Dennis Francis) and Beverly Hopps (Bryan), grandchildren Jeffrey Britt (Beth), Justin Hopps (Cana), Katlyn Hopps, Morgan Koch (Jack), great-granddaughter Maevery Sloane, aunt Inez Owens Leslie, and numerous cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Christine was a devoted member of Shortoff Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, assistant treasurer and church clerk.

Christine graduated from Rabun County High School and looked forward with anticipation to class reunions held every five years, until recently when the class decided to meet every year as long as they were able.

Christine provided in-home care to her mother Lillian until the severity of her illness required skilled nursing care, to her niece Lisa when she was a toddler, and was always at the ready to support her children when their health care needs required the attention that only a loving mother could provide.

Christine was a loyal employee of First Union Bank in Highlands for many years before retiring in 2002. During her career, she was recognized as a member of First Union’s Tri-State Millennium Club, an honor for top-tier employees known for outstanding sales and customer service. Though she never considered herself a salesperson, she believed in helping customers understand financial products that could benefit them.

Her greatest joys were hosting family members and preparing their favorite foods and gardening, especially taking tender care of her beautiful flowers – especially her dahlias.

Many heartfelt thanks to dedicated caregivers at Chestnut Hill Assisted Living and Four Seasons Hospice Care who provided care and support to her and to her daughters as if we were one of their own.

The funeral will be held at Shortoff Baptist Church in Highlands, NC on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Roy Lowe and Rev. Richard Salmason officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 2:00 PM, at the church. Burial will follow at Highlands Memorial Park. Pall bearers will be Brian Lowe, Philip Lowe, Dennis Francis, Bryan Hopps, Jeffrey Britt, and Justin Hopps.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shortoff Baptist Church or Four Seasons Hospice Foundation.
