Sheriff Homer V. Holbrooks, 77, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 29, 2025, with his family by his side.

Homer was born March 23, 1948, in Macon, County, Burningtown Community at home to the late John Terrell "Jack" Holbrooks, Jr. and Hetty Josephine Welch Holbrooks.

Homer served as sheriff of Macon, County for 16 years from 1986-2002; He worked at the A&P Grocery Store for 18 years; He was a graduate of Franklin High School class of 1966 where he was voted most athletic. Homer was inducted into the Franklin High School Hall of Fame in 2020. He was a founding member of the Macon County Coon Club where he loved coon hunting. Homer was also a founding member of the Burningtown Fire Department and a member of Burningtown Baptist Church.

Homer had a loving servant's heart; he had a great love for people especially children. He also enjoyed pulling good jokes and scaring people. Homer loved old cars, and going to the Rod Run in Tennessee for 26 years. He enjoyed buck dancing and music with his favorite being gospel and bluegrass. Homer loved gardening, riding in the woods to his cabin, and going fishing in the Shallowford's on Needmore. Homer had a great love for Macon, County, his country, family, but most of all his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Vinson Holbrooks; children, Eric (Tammy), April (Tracy), and Brent (Sarah); Grandkids, Kendra (Dillon), Trey (Karly), Hope, Tye (Reagan), Adrianne, Jack, Knox, Saylor, and Tripp; Great-grandchildren, Adam, Rip, Ranen, Lainey, Kade, and Wilhelmine.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, September 5, 2025, at Prentiss Church of God with the Rev. Don Moffitt, Rev. Phillip Cochran, and Rev. Branndon Crone. A private burial will follow at Burningtown Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Prentiss Church of God. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be all law enforcement officers and personal friends that helped during his illness.
