Franklin, NC - Homer Edison Stiwinter, age 91, of the Walnut Creek Community, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 in a local hospital. He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late Charlie and Lena Hedden Stiwinter. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II, and a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church. He had worked in a shipyard in Portsmouth, VA. He loved cars.
He is survived by a daughter, Laverne Key and husband Lon of Norwich, Connecticut; two sons, Kenneth Stiwinter of Norwich, Connecticut and Curtis Stiwinter of Hebron, Connecticut; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 18th at 3:00pm at Walnut Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Alton Dendy officiating. Burial will be at Strain Cemetery. The Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will conduct military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Saturday evening at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the Church thirty minutes prior to the service.
