Irwin Alfred Van Horn, 83, of Franklin, NC went home to his Lord and Savior Saturday, February 27, 2016.  Born in Binghamton, NY September 30, 1932, he was the son of the late Maynard Duane Van Horn, Sr. and Edna Ellen Badgley Van Horn.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Gregory Scott Van Horn; wife of 22 years, Irene B. Koeppel Van Horn; brother, William Harold Van Horn; sister, Evelyn Badgley Van Horn Collins-Kirkman.

Irwin (Van) as he was known by family and close friends was a Veteran of the Korean War, worked for many years in retail management with different companies, the last being before he retired, Walmart in Franklin, NC.

He was a really good cook to which he learned from his mother as a child.  Irwin’s specialty "Lemonade Pie" Apple Pie too!

Irwin was a member of Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church.  He served on numerous committees.  Irwin enjoyed the friendship of the Monday morning men’s breakfast, and thought the world of his Pastor, David Crunkleton and his church family.

He is survived by his daughter, Gale Ellen Van Horn-Helix of Franklin, NC, step-daughter, Kathleen Hylkema of Williamsburg, VA, special nephew, William (Bill) Van Horn and wife Sharon Moore Van Horn of Franklin, NC; special companion and friend of 15 years, Hattie Moffitt of Franklin, NC; two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, last but not least Irwin’s favorite buddy, his dog, Dirk.

A memorial service will be held at Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church, March 7, 2016 at 3:00 pm, with Rev. David Crunkleton officiating. A reception will follow the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Appalachian Animal Rescue, 851 Lake Emory Road,  Franklin, NC. or Louisa United Methodist Church 407 Louisa Chapel Rd. Franklin, NC 28734.
