Franklin, NC - Jack D. Cabe, age 88, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Fred D. and Jessie Sutton Cabe.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joann B. Cabe; two daughters, Jan C. Moore and husband Chris and Laura C. McCurry and husband Vernon; grandson Corey McCurry and wife Mandy; step grandson, Shawn McCurry and wife Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth C. Pearson and his brother, Larry Cabe and his wife Gaynell.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Mildred C. Perry and brother, Charles Cabe.

Mr. Cabe served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps - Pacific Theatre in World War II for three years; served as Chairman of the Macon County Board of Commissioners; served on the Social Service Board and Parks and Recreation and Macon Program for Progress. In addition he served as Chairman of the Macon County Democratic Party and Millshoal Precinct Chairman. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees; was a member of Franklin VFW Post #7339 and Marine Corps League; a member of the Junaluskee Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and the Scottish Rite for over 50 years. He served 35 years with the N. C. State Highway Patrol where he retired with the rank of Major. He worked as Administrative Assistant in the District Attorney’s office for 10 years and then volunteered for a number of years with that office.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 9, 2012 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Dusek and Rev. Robert Brown officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. N. C. Highway Patrol Troop G Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the church. N. C. Highway Patrol Troop G Honor Guard will perform graveside rites.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
