Jack Louis Sapolsky, M.D. passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2025.
He is survived by his loving husband of 46 years, Richard Bordeaux, and his loyal, loving niece, Tiby Weinstein, of Greenville, SC. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Thelma D. and I. Louis Sapolsky, and a sister, Betty Trent Weinstein.
Dr. Sapolsky was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1938. After graduating from local schools he received a B.A. degree from Duke University and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee. He served an internship and surgical residency at Duval Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Sapolsky entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps in 1965 and served in the Republic of Viet Nam for which was awarded the Bronze Star Medal or exceptional meritorious service. Following discharge from the military Dr. Sapolsky served his Urology residency at Vanderbilt University.
In 1972 Dr. Sapolsky returned to his home town of Jacksonville, Florida, to enter the private practice of Urology at the McIver Clinic. During his years of private practice he served as Chief of Urology, Chief of Department of Surgery, and President of the Medical Staff at Baptist Medical Center as well as the Duval County Medical Society. He retired from medical practice in 1999.
After moving permanently to Highlands, NC, Dr. Sapolsky enjoyed his retirement years in the mountains with his husband, Richard, and their beloved dogs. His lifelong love of classical music led him to be an avid supporter of the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival which he served as both board member and president of the board, successfully leading the organization through some of its most challenging and difficult times in the wake of the 2008 global financial collapse.
For years Jack and Richard have been ardent supporters of the festival and grateful, enthusiastic participants in the community life of Highlands. Jack will always be remembered for his hearty laugh, his kindness, and – perhaps above all - his generosity. Jack was a passionate lover of animals, particularly dogs, and will be especially missed by his two devoted Labradoodles, Daisy and Emma.
There will be no formal funeral service but a celebration of life will occur at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival at 507 Chestnut Street, Highlands, NC 28741.
