Franklin, NC - James Douglas Bridges, 85, died at his residence on April 21, 2008. He was born in Terrell County, GA, the son of the late Clyde and Mary Lowery Bridges. He was a graduate of the University of GA, member of the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, NC, served as an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Phenix City, AL for over 20 years, a member fo the American Foreign Legion, and served in the Air Force during WWII as a crewmember on B-29 bombers. He retired from GMAC as a District Sales Manager after 30 years of employment.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Brossett and her husband, Wayne of Lee County, GA, Marcella Latimer and her husband Joseph of Phenix City, AL, and Teresa Bridges of Franklin, NC. Grandson, Eric Brown, Pierce Brossett, Charlie Turner, William Brossett and granddaughters, Kimberly Latimer, Whitney Latimer, & Lauren Brossett; brothers, Luther Bridges and wife Carol of Camden, SC, Louis Bridges and wife Stella of Americus, GA; sister, Margie Fletcher of Americus, GA; sister-in-law, June Hall of Royal Oak, MI and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley C. Bridges; nephews, Edward & Grant Bridges; sisters, Dollie Jones and her husband, Howard & Nellie Wiggins; brothers, Steve Bridges, Clyde Bridges and his wife, Eva & brothers-in-law, Clay Fletcher & Rex Hall.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 26 at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Chapel in Franklin, NC with Rev. Bob Abel officiating.
