James Merrill Carlton

James Merrill Carlton, 83, of Highlands, NC, passed away October 7, 2024. He was born February 6, 1941, in Pinellas County, FL to the late William Robert and Martha Elizabeth Moore Carlton.

James attended St. Petersburg High School in Florida and then served in the US Navy as an electronics technician on a P3V plane. Jim worked for Xerox as a Service Manager, had his own marketing business, and later sports photography business. In December 2013, after retiring, Jim and his wife, Lynn, moved to Highlands, NC. Jim loved the Lord, his family and friends, fishing, a good ole Sweet Treats waffle cone, and the Miami Dolphins.

He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Lynn Carlton of Highlands, NC; brother, Bob Carlton (Sandy); daughters, Kelly Kay Carlton Jones and Kerri Kris Carlton Pyne (Jeff); son, James Peter Carlton; grandchildren, Kayla Jones, Bobbi Jones and Cierra Pyne; several nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Carlton Ayers.

A service will be held at a later date.
