Franklin - James Harold Brown, age 87, of Franklin, NC passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2012. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Fernando Erastus and Ada Justice Brown. He was married to Anna Pearl Tarpley Brown who died October 20, 2006. He was retired from General Motors; a member of Junaluska Lodge #145; a Shriner, and a member of Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108. He loved to western square dance.
James is survived by his caregiver, Judy Dodgins of Franklin, NC; two sisters-in-law, Clara Knuckles and husband Virgil and Nora Thompson; two nephews, Edwin and Alvin Brown and four nieces, Iris Wamsley, Linda Turpin, Glenda Hunsucker and Vivian Tolbert along with several nieces and nephews from St. Louis.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral home with Rev. Steve Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery. Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will conduct full military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Thursday evening, at the funeral home.
