Jay Lloyd Stamey

Franklin, NC - Jay Lloyd Stamey, 87, of the Ellijay Community passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013. Born in Gastonia, NC, he was the son of the late Nelson Virgil and Marie C. Cook Stamey. He was employed by Macon County Supply and the Macon County School System; he enjoyed electronics, feeding birds, telescopes, riding his golf cart and taking care of his cat. He was a member of Higdonville Baptist Church where he was on the church building committee.

Mr. Stamey is survived by his wife of 42 years, Hazel Bernice Moses Stamey; two step daughters, Rebecca Powers; Sonja Vanhook and husband Dennis all of Franklin; one step son, Dennis Nelson Stamey and wife Terry of Franklin; two brothers, Gene Stamey and wife Jean and Fred Stamey and wife Marilyn all of Franklin; four step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Johnny Stamey.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Lowe officiating. Burial will be at Higdonville Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Denver Higdon, Bo Higdon, Tim Higdon, Larry Moses, Randy Rogers and Morris Stamey. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
