Hayesville, NC - Jean Wilde Seaverns, age 87, of Hayesville NC passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at a Chattanooga hospital. Jean was born in Durand, Michigan, a railroad town outside Detroit, in 1927 to Al and Helen Ray. She had one brother, Don Ray. The family moved to Royal Oak, Michigan, then she attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she earned a nursing degree. After graduation, Jean moved to Ft Lauderdale, FL where she married and had two children, Carol and David. She discovered Hayesville around 1970, and first summered there but eventually made it her permanent home. She married Earle Davis Seaverns in 2001. Jean was a very happy and outgoing person. She cared for her family and others in the community, offering love, comfort and support wherever it was needed. She was a wonderful cook and loved to party, whatever the occasion, or for no particular reason at all. Jean was a member of the Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd in Hayesville, and was a longtime volunteer for the Meals on Wheels Program, delivering meals in the community.

Jean is survived by her husband, Earle Seaverns, her daughter Carol Pate and husband Ted of Fort Worth, TX, her son David Wagener and wife Donna of Miami FL, her grandchildren Michael, Dina, and Matthew Wagener, her niece Deana Bishop and husband Thomas and their children Weston, Rhiannon, and Reghan of Marietta, GA, her nephew Alan Ray and wife Josefina and their children Cathy and Julia of Ft Lauderdale, FL. She is also survived by granddaughter Robbin Sinay, who moved to Hayesville two years ago to be near her Grandma Jean and share her love of the area.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jean’s memory to Clay County Food Pantry, 2278 Hinton Center Rd, Hayesville NC 28904.
