Jerry Carroll Gibson

Jerry Carroll Gibson, born November 30, 1940, passed away August 15, 2015 at the age of 74.  He was the son of the late Carroll Alan and Ruby Cloer Gibson; grandson of Rev. George and Flora Dills Cloer and Joseph Carroll and Alva Allen Gibson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Andrew Gibson, Sr.

Jerry graduated Franklin High School in 1959. He was a military policeman in the U. S. Army. He then served as a prison guard in the State Prison in Winston Salem, NC. He was co‑owner of Gibson’s Ruby Mine in Cowee Valley.

He was a member of "The Ruby Valley Boys" Band.  He was a great guitarist and enjoyed music.  His passion was billiards; he was known for being one of the greatest from WNC. He was called Gibo!

He was a wonderful patron of the Macon County Public Library.  He was so proud that our county had this great addition.  He was also an avid movie buff and loved to go to movies on weekends.

He was married to Mary Sue Sprinkle Gibson on July 9, 1966.  They had two daughters, Connie Lynn Gibson Hodgins and husband Michael and Cynthia Diane Gibson Jenkins and husband Jerry Dean Jenkins.  He is survived by two grandchildren, Hayden Brock Price of the home and Ashlee Jenkins of Bryson City, NC; two nephews, Andy Gibson and Mark Gibson; sister‑in‑law, Nell Scruggs Gibson and two great‑nephews, Joey Gibson and Jon Gibson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Bryant‑Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Dryman officiating.  Burial will follow in Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Rob Bell, Leon Anthony, Mike Sprinkle, Joey Gibson, Junior Fouts and Greg Allen.  Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will perform full military graveside rites.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 ‑ 9:00 pm at Bryant‑Grant Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charles George VA Hospital, 1100 Tunnel Rd., Asheville, NC  28805
