Jesse L. West, Jr.

J. L. West, 93, of Franklin, N.C. passed away Friday January 22, 2016 at his home following extended Hospice care.  Born in Franklin, N.C., he was the son of Dr. and Mrs. J. L. West, Sr.  He was a graduate of Brevard College and worked in the Newport News Shipyards during World War II.  He was retired from his florist shop, Allstate insurance agency, and the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.  He was an active member of First United Methodist Church.  He was also a 50-year member of Junaluskee Masonic Lodge and a long time member of the Oasis Shrine.

Mr. West is survived by his son, Jesse Lyle West, III and wife, Charlene, of Asheville, NC; six grandchildren: Alicia Reed, Jerry Lee Patton, Jr, Stephen Yonce, Mary Elizabeth Yonce, Jesse Lyle West IV, and Jeffrey West; and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Suttle West in 2012; 2 daughters: Evelyn Patton and Patricia Cabe; and granddaughter Rebecca Lynn Patton.

A memorial service will be held Monday January 25, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Franklin, NC with Reverend David Beam officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the church.
