Jessie James Cowart

Franklin, NC - Jessie James Cowart, age 68, of Franklin, NC lost his battle with lung cancer Saturday, January 10, 2015 in an Asheville hospital. He was born in Terrell Co., NC; the son of the late Frank and Maybelle Williamson Cowart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ledford Cowart, who passed away March 9, 2012. Jessie became a carpenter at an early age and was a truck driver for 35 years. He loved playing cards, yard sale-ing, auctions and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by a daughter, Teresa Ann Hall and husband Doug; two sons, Keith Cowart and wife Leslie, Robert Cowart and wife Marcella all of Franklin; two step-daughters, Cheryl Hicks and husband Jack of Franklin, and Laura Fountain and husband Hank of Clayton, GA; two step-sons, Jack Terrell and wife Latasha and Brian Terrell and wife Kim all of Franklin; a sister, Dorothy Scott and her husband, Zeb of Franklin; two brothers, Earl Cowart and Fred Cowart both of Franklin; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion, Georgianna Beach.He was preceded in death by a son, Russell Todd Cowart; two sisters, Betty and Peggy, and four brothers, Junior Hill, Wiley, R.L., and Randolph.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 6:00 pm in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 - 6:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
