Jessie Joan Owenby

Aquone, NC - Jessie Joan Owenby, age 69, of Aquone, NC, passed away Wed., March 9, 2011 at her residence following a brief battle with cancer. A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Eunice Wright Jacobs. She was married to J. D. Owenby for 52 years. She was a 1958 graduate of Nantahala High School and worked at Berkshire Knitting Mill, Owenby Manufacturing Company and Lee Company as a machine operator. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she loved to cook for her grandchildren, Taylor and Dalton. She was a member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church where she was secretary-treasurer for more than thirty years.

In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, Lynn Owenby of High Point, NC; three sisters, Syretta Cochran, Faye Wood and husband Jim and Carol Bateman and husband Wendell all of Nantahala, NC; her stepmother, Willa Mae Jacobs of Andrews, NC and one stepbrother, Sidney Haney of Andrews, NC. Two grandchildren, Taylor and Dalton Owenby, also survive. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian Waters, Helen Baldwin and Ollie Lunsford and one brother, Austin Jacobs.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Bethel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Eugene Taylor and Rev. Dean Owenby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Howell Jacobs, Gary Wishon, Pearly Owenby, Gene Dehart, Taylor Owenby and Dalton Owenby. Honarary pallbearers will be Hoyt Owenby, Brian Bateman and Vernon Passmore.
