Franklin, NC - John Wiley Angel, age 84, of Rogersville, TN formerly of Franklin, NC passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at a VA Hospital in Johnson City, TN. He was a native of Macon County, NC the son of the late Carl L. and Lura Cloer Angel. He was a WWII US Army Veteran where he received the following medals, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat in Infantry Badge, Middle Eastern North African Campaign Ribbons and Expert Marksman. He was a member of the Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108. He was a carpenter and construction worker and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by three daughters, Joyce A. Gibson and her husband, Richard "Dickie" of Franklin, NC, Debra A. Newton and husband, Carl of Monroe, NC and Bobbie Broom and her husband, Richard of Sylva, NC; three sons, Doug Angel and his wife, June of Franklin, NC, Mike Angel and his wife, Nolita of Franklin, NC, and Scott L. Angel of Rogersville, TN; one brother, Edd B. Angel of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert W. Angel and William P. Angel.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 1 at 1:00 PM at Patton United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Steve Reeves officiating.
