John "Cecil" Douthit Sr.

John Cecil Douthit Sr., 84, known to most as Cecil, of Nantahala, NC, went to his heavenly home on October 23, 2023. Cecil was born in Swain County, NC, on November 13, 1938, to the late John and Mary Morgan Douthit. Cecil was a graduate of Nantahala High School, a devout Christian, a deacon at Bethel Hill Baptist Church, and sang with the Believers Quartet and Smokey Mountain Gospel Singers.

Cecil married the love of his life, Norma Owenby Douthit, and together, they had three beautiful children. Cecil worked as a Custodian and enjoyed fishing, bird watching, spending time with his family, and anything that included chocolate. Cecil was also a proud veteran of the United States Army.

Cecil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma; 3 children: Cindy, John, and Kevin; 6 grandchildren: Kristin, Brandon, Alicia, Hayle, Paige, and Talen; 2 great-grandchildren: Sofi and Dominic; sister-in-law Mary; brother-in-law Steve; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his sisters Jane, Meri Beth, Lola Mae, Bonnie, Margie, and Linda, as well as his brothers Samuel, Ray, and Charles.

Visitation will be held at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Andrews, NC, on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Hill Baptist Church in Nantahala, NC, on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2 p.m. Pastors Marlin McMahan, SJ Waters, and Darrell Dockery will officiate the service. Smokey Mountain Gospel Singers will be singing.
