John Peter Gillies

John Peter Gillies, 68, of Awendaw, SC died peacefully on October 5, 2017 at his "happy place" (Lake Glenville, NC) after a year’s long battle with cancer.

John was born on November 28, 1948 to Helen and John Gillies in Queens, NY.  After retiring as a NYPD detective he continued his career in the corporate world in Tampa, Florida, retiring as SVP of Fidelity Information Services.

John is survived by his wife: Gabrielle Gregorie Gillies; his two sons Shaun Gillies and Christopher Gillies; his step-son Christopher (Jenn) Nix, three grandchildren: Zoe Nix, Gabrielle Nix and Christopher Nix; two sisters: Mary (Jim) Vigil, Maureen (Pete) Gobbi; and four brothers: Michael (Liz) Gillies, Peter (Pam) Gillies, Jim (Jane) Gillies, and Rob (Cathy) Gillies and his beloved pets Sugar, Gillie and Angel.

We would like to thank all the wonderful friends and family that supported John through this difficult time.

A celebration of his life will be held from 4pm until 6pm on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Oakland Plantation, Mt. Pleasant, SC.  Oakland Plantation is located at 1164 Porcher's Bluff Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice or the charity of your choice.
