Jorgen Bodker

Jorgen Bodker(March 1, 1927‑January 30, 2017), was the second of three children born to Dagney Olsen Bodker and Christian Bodker in Bigum, Denmark.

Jorgen immigrated to Detroit, Michigan in the early 1930s where he attended Redford Union High School. He left school early to join the Merchant Marine, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II, bravely defending his adopted county in Okinawa. Upon leaving the service, he sailed the world.

In 1949, Jorgen returned to Detoit, joined his family's business, Bodker Dairy Company, and married his childhood sweetheart/love of his life/literally girl‑next‑door, Alice Ulseth. They eventually settled on a horse farm in South Lyon, Michigan where he resided with his family until until he "retired" to Satellite Beach, Florida in 1970.

Not to be stiffled by retirement, Jorgen and Alice bought Jo‑Jo's restaurant on Grassy Key, Florida in 1972. Jorgen retired to Otto, North Carolina in 2002 but always retained a residence in his beloved Florida Keys.

Jorgen enjoyed hunting, fishing and sailing to the Bahamas. He was a member of the Lola Valley Chapter of the Masonic Lodge and a supporter of the Shriners Children Hospital.

Survivors include  his brother Verner Bodker, Alma, MI, children Eric (Sue) Bodker, Knoxville TN, Verner Bodker, Islamorada, FL, and Alisa Bodker, Otto, NC.  Grandchildren Karl Bodker, Erica Bodker‑Self, Ethan Wallace and Kirsten Hampson and two great grandchildren.

Jorgen was preceded in death by his wife Alice, son Karl and sister Vivian.

Bryant‑Grant Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Bodker family. Online condolences may be made at bryantgrantfuneralhome.com.
