Joseph Dean Henson

Joseph Dean Henson, 94, of Otto, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025. He was born December 12, 1931, in Macon County, NC to the late Edmond L. Henson and Iris Cabe Henson.

 Mr. Henson was a schoolteacher for over thirty years. When he was first out of college he taught school in Alaska. He then taught English at Brevard High School until his retirement. He was a member of the NCAE and NEA teacher association and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Mr. Henson loved gardening, fishing, boating, and he loved to travel.

Mr. Henson is survived by his nephew, Kevin Payne; great-nephew, Ethan Payne (Brittany); great-great-nephews, Clay Payne and Grady Payne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Payne (Kyle), a great-niece, Aly Payne and a niece, Melanie Payne.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Henson officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Saturday evening at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home.
