Franklin, NC - Joseph "Joe" Thad Hodgin, 95, of Franklin passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Charles "Rush" and Alice Drake Hodgin. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army where he served 3 1/2 years in the South Pacific. He was a timberman, farmer and retired employee of Burlington Industries and was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and Gillespie Chapel United Methodist Church for 67 years.
Mr. Hodgin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Guffie Hodgin; two daughters, Sue Deal and husband Jim and Sharon Bryson and husband Tony all of Franklin; two sons, Jerry Hodgin and wife Darlene and Jack Hodgin and wife June all of Franklin; a sister, Genevie Cruse of Franklin; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Dehart; two brothers, William Hodgin and C. M. Hodgin; a great grandchild, Lyla Maxon and three nephews, Donald Hodgin, Ronnie Hodgin and Gene Hodgin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Susan German and Rev. Don Moffitt officiating. Burial will be in Gillespie Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will perform full military graveside rites. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 8:00 pm at Bryant Grant Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Gillespie Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Belva Edwards, 1081 Jones Creek Road, Franklin, NC 28734 or the church or charity of one's choice.
