Franklin, NC - Joy A. McCollum, 75, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, after an extended illness. Born in Macon Co., she was the daughter of the late Phil and Mildred "Tootsie" Kinnebrew McCollum. Joy was a teacher in the Macon County school system and at Southwestern Community College, where she was also business manager for several years. She was a member of Clark's Chapel Methodist Church since 1972, where she sang in the choir. Joy was an active member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, and a Charter member and treasurer of the Clarks Chapel Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years. She had a special interest in genealogy, and often assisted others in researching family history. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family, especially with her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy M. Holmes of Duncan, SC; two brothers, Tommy McCollum and wife Jean and Bob McCollum and wife Elaine all of Franklin and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant brother and her twin sister, Jean M. Sutton.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 1st at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Vic Greene and Rev. Randy Perdue officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 till 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Clarks Chapel Fire Department, 270 Fulcher Road, Franklin, NC 28734, Angel Hospice, 170 Church Street, Franklin, NC 28734, or to New Century Scholars, c/o Southwestern Community College, 447 College Drive, Sylva, NC 28779.
