Kenneth H. Downs

Franklin - Kenneth Harold "Digger Shag" Downs, age 58, of Franklin, NC passed away Monday, April 30, 2012. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late William Lyle and Kate Dowell Downs. He was married to Georgeanna Bell Downs for twelve years. Kenneth was a heavy equipment operator; was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he loved to garden, fish and to dig ramps. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife, Kenneth is survived by two daughters, Brittany and Ashley Downs both of Richmond, VA; two sons, Mitchell Downs and Scott Downs and wife Kelli all of Richmond, VA; three step-sons, George, Doyle and Chris Bell all of Franklin, NC; two brothers, Leroy and Jim Downs both of Franklin, NC; one grandchild, Nick Bell; several nieces and nephews and his special dog, Missy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Nichols and Linda Moses.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Benny Hurst and Rev. Frank Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be in Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mitchell Downs, Scott Downs, George Bell, Doyle Bell, Chris Bell and Dickie Anderson.

The family will receive friends, Thursday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM, two hours prior to the service, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made directly to Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., Franklin, NC 28734.
