Greenville, SC - Laura Amy Maxine Brendle Hester, 88, of Greenville, died Sunday, February 1, 2015 in Easley after a period of declining health. Born in Franklin, NC on November 22, 1926, to the late John Blanchard and Gladys Parker Brendle, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Paul Hester, Sr., who died in 1986.
Mrs. Hester is survived by three sons, James "Jimmy" Paul Hester, Jr. (Kim) of Nashville, TN, Brian Keith Hester (Pilar) of Easley, and Mark Randall Hester (Becky) of Gray Court; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hester is preceded in death by two brothers, John Blanchard Brendle, Jr. and Dale Brendle, and three sisters, Lucille Wolfe, Evelyn Mashburn, and Joan Stewart. She is survived by a brother, Douglas Brendle of Taylors, and four sisters, Delores Thomas of Taylors, Marvel Curtis of Franklin, NC, Linda Emory of Greenville, and Sonja Brannon of Taylors.

Mrs. Hester's love for people was evident in many ways throughout her life, but none more so than in her professional career. She completed training at Greenville Hospital School of Nursing and retired June 30, 1989, after serving over 35 years in the Greenville Hospital System. As an active member of Eastlan Baptist Church for over 60 years, Mrs. Hester was involved in missions' education and support and various children's ministries. Her love for the Bible and her commitment to God's Word was demonstrated weekly as she taught a women's Bible study class for many years.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. A celebration of Mrs. Hester's life will be conducted Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 1:30 p.m.at Eastlan Baptist Church, Pleasantburg Drive. Burial will be held Friday, February 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
