Franklin, NC - Leah Christine Boring, 90, peacefully passed on July 24, 2014 at Angel Medical Center in Franklin, NC. A native of Miami, Florida she was born January 31, 1924 to the late Theodore Clay Clemons and Mamie Leila Pinholster Clemons. While in Jr. High School, she met Charles Harold Boring, whom she later married in 1945. They moved to Bryson City, NC in 1950, where they operated Boring Grocery for five years. They moved to Franklin, NC in 1955 where Christine worked as a secretary for the Town of Franklin for twenty years, the last few of those years serving as the Town Clerk. Upon retirement with the Town, she worked as an administrative assistant for Southwestern Community College until her retirement in 1985.
Christine was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin for over sixty years and sang in the chancel choir for fifty years. She was also a member of the Naomi Sunday school class and was a former deacon. A volunteer for CareNet of Franklin and many other church related functions, her compassion for others will truly be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty nine years, Charles H. Boring.
Christine is survived by her children Teddy Boring and wife Linda of Marietta, GA; Becky Harris and husband Bruce of Florence, SC; and Cindy Mashburn and husband Andy of Sylva, NC. Also five grandchildren; Chuck and Spencer Boring, Leah Mashburn, Cary Edgar and Kaplan Harris; sister, Kathleen Marcinowski of Ashburnham, MA and five great grandchildren.
Visitation services will be held Saturday, July 26th at First Baptist Church in Franklin, NC from 1:00 2:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jim Dusek and Rev. Jack Jarrett officiating; followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of this humble and compassionate woman, donations can be made to First Baptist Church, 69 Iotla Street, Franklin, NC 28734.
