Lemmie Shirley Houston

Franklin, NC - Lemmie Shirley Houston, age 91, of Kennesaw, GA, formerly of Franklin, NC passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Melvin and Lillie Belle Ballew Houston. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII. He was a member and Quarter Master of Franklin VFW Post #7339.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Grist of Tifton, GA and Dianne Van Valkenburg of Kennesaw, GA; one son, Lawton Houston of Cashiers, NC; one sister, Ruby Woodring of Franklin, NC; and one brother, Kelly Houston of Marietta, GA. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Marie Moss, Edith Dendy, Hallie Moses and Nonie Hooper and one brother, Harley Houston.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Dendy officiating. Burial will be in Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery. Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will perform full military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
