Louis Favrot Reynaud MD of Highlands, NC died peacefully on March 8, 2017 after a short illness. He was surrounded by his family and was laughing and talking until the end. He was born in New Orleans on July 19, 1924 to Louis F. Reynaud II and Vashti Rae Stephenson. He graduated from Emory University where he was on the swim team and a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He enlisted in the Navy after Pearl Harbor and spent four years in the Navy and as a Marine Corpsman. He served in the Pacific in the battles on Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima where he was the only surviving member of his company. After the war he used the GI bill to attend the University of Maryland medical school where he met his future wife, Virginia Marie Gould. After their wedding in 1950, they moved to Atlanta where they practiced pediatrics for 37 years. They had the first integrated waiting room in Atlanta when such a practice was still against the law.
They retired to Highlands, NC in 1990 and began a whole new chapter in their lives. Louis was deeply involved with The Highlands/Cashiers music festival and Performing Arts Center, the Highlands Playhouse, Rotary, Highlands Zoning Board and was a regular contributor to letters to the editor of the Highlander newspaper. One of his well known passions was his wildflower garden.
He is survived by his wife, his three children, Louis (and Kelly), Christine Dunn (and John), and Suzanne King (and Thad), seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Louis was dearly loved by his family, his patients and many friends. He was always the life of the party but a man of character and commitment.
