Martin Robert Beatty

Martin "Marty" Beatty, a devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away on October 8, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Marty was born in Philadelphia, PA, March 9, 1949 to parents, Katharine “Audrey” and Martin “Marty” Francis Beatty.  He moved to Atlanta, GA, in 1972 and retired to Cashiers, NC, in 2003. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of love, public service, and unforgettable presence continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Marty was a proud Army veteran and former police captain who dedicated his life to serving others. The strength, integrity, and leadership forged during his military career were carried into his career in law enforcement in DeKalb County, Georgia, earning the respect of his colleagues and the community he served. Everyone knew when Marty walked into a room. He possessed a larger-than-life personality, often expressed through humor, that was heard by many, but felt most by friends and family. After years spent in and around Atlanta, Georgia, Marty found peace and contentment in retirement among friends and family in the beautiful mountains near Lake Glenville in Cashiers North Carolina. He embraced the natural beauty of the outdoors, whether hiking the trails, fishing for trout by a quiet stream, or cruising down a winding road with the windows down. Marty's sharp sense of humor could fill rooms with laughter. He enjoyed good cigars, a fine glass of bourbon, and time spent with friends. Marty had a special love for cars and motorcycles. He had a natural green thumb and enjoyed working in the yard throughout his life, especially after retirement to the mountains.  Later in life, he also discovered a new form of expression in painting. Above all, Marty was a devoted husband and father who cared deeply about his family. He placed his faith in Christ and made a conscious decision to follow Him. He had a warm, generous heart, and was always willing to offer a helping hand, kindness and support to those around him. Marty is survived by his wife, Kathy. His memory will be cherished by his son, Patrick; daughter-in-law, Sarah; and two beloved grandchildren, James and Emma Jane, who each brought him joy and pride.  He was predeceased by his brother Robert Beatty.  He enjoyed a close bond with his sister, Kathy Beatty Rowles, and her family, treasuring their time together. He also enjoyed many nieces and nephews and the time spent together in their early years. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends next year where all are welcome to gather and honor a truly remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The MDS Foundation in Marty’s memory https://www.mds-foundation.org/donate
