Franklin, NC - Mary Maude Brendle Hopkins, age 93, of Brendle Road, Franklin, NC, went to be with the Lord, Monday, February 2, 2009. She was a native of Macon County, the daughter of the late Robert David and Amy Ledford Brendle. She was married first to Parks Wiley Brendle, who passed away in 1980, and is survived by her second husband,, of 24 years, John D. (Jay) Hopkins. She had worked at Franklin Undergarment and Van Raalte, and was the oldest member of Watauga Baptist Church, where she was a former choir member.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Bessie Beeco, Minnie Clayton, Vinnie Brendle and Mattie Fouts and seven brothers, J. B., Frank, Fred, Wiley, Dee, Robert and Barnard Brendle.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 5th at 2:00pm, at Watauga Baptist Church, with Rev. Wesley Price, Rev. Roy Lowe and Rev. Vic Greene officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Tallent, Melvin Mashburn, Larry Mashburn, Kenneth Mashburn, Ernie Brendle and Tommy Guffey.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Wednesday evening at Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the Church, thirty minutes prior to the service.
