Mary Esther Chavis

Franklin, NC - Mary Esther Chavis, 83, of Franklin, NC passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 in a local hospital. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Canary (Ned) and Amanda Bryson Chavis. She was a retired machine operator for CR Industries and loved to read and meet people; she was a member of St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church where she was a greeter and usher.

Ms. Chavis is survived by a sister, Shirley Chavis Streater of Sylva; three brothers, James Chavis of High Point, NC, Joseph Chavis of Franklin and Ross Chavis of Greensboro, NC and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Freeman Chavis and Clarence (Buddy) Chavis; two nephews, Jimmie and Steve Streater and a niece, Angel Chavis Rocker.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Dorrie Pratt and Rev. Robert Dryman officiating. Burial will be in St. Cyprian’s Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pat Stevenson, Patrick Stevenson, Joe Stevenson, Jasper Moody, Joe Chavis and Bill Crawford. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 - 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
