Mary June (Roper) Smith

Mary June Roper Smith, 77, of Topton, NC passed away on December 5, 2017. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Lee and Ophia Louise McGlouthin Roper. She was married to Clyde Smith who preceded her in death in 2004.

Mrs. Smith worked at Blue Bell and she loved being outside and taking walks. She loved gardening, feeding the birds and growing flowers. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great‑grandmother.

Survivors include sons, Earl Douglas Hampton (Marquita) of Topton and Steven Hampton (Amy) of Union, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Lacey West, Aaron Hampton and Adrian Hampton; great-grandchildren, Makayla West and Damien West; sisters, Velva Bateman, Barbara Creasman and Pamela Bryson and brother, Roy Roper.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by sisters, Joyce Cook and Bernice Ramsey and a brother, R. L. Roper.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Aquone Baptist Church with Pastor Joel Creasman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Noah Ramsey, Chuck Davis, Kurtis West, Scott Ramsey, David Cook and Phil White. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Cook, Tommy Baldwin and Marcus Sparks. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 ‑ 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
