Mary Jeanette Chidsey Trott

Mary Jeannette Chidsey Trott, age 92, of Highlands, North Carolina, passed away on December 11, 2025.

Jean was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was defined by resilience, creativity, and deep love for her family. She had a lifelong affection for animals and found great joy in artistic pursuits, particularly in creating beautiful porcelain dolls and imaginative stump houses that reflected her creativity and gentle spirit.

At the age of 34, Jean experienced the tragic loss of her first husband, James Berrien Chidsey, Jr. Faced with profound hardship, she courageously raised their four young children on her own, demonstrating remarkable strength, perseverance, and devotion. Her family remained the center of her life, and she took great pride in nurturing generations with love, wisdom, and kindness.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James Berrien Chidsey, Jr., her son, James Berrien Chidsey III and husband Allen L. “Buck” Trott.

She is survived by her children: Sallie Chidsey Taylor (Patrick); Jeannette Covington Chidsey; and Charles Truman Chidsey (Gretchen), and her sister, Barbara Hine Briley of Rome, Ga. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a constant source of joy and pride in her life.
