Oma Downs

Franklin, NC - Oma Downs, age 98, of Franklin, NC passed away Monday, October 29, 2012. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie M. and Mary Magdelene Gibson Wooten. She was married to the late Ray Downs who died in 1997. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she loved quilting, gardening and cooking.
Mrs. Downs is survived by one daughter, Ruth Alexander and husband Gerald of Waller, TX; four sons, Edward Downs and wife Lois, Lowell Downs and wife Nellie, Dennis Downs and wife Rita and Johnny Downs all of Franklin, NC; three sisters, Velma Estes and Irene Hampton both of Franklin, NC and Leona Gray of Leicester, NC; eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Downs; a sister, Mary Belle Angel and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 11:30 am in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Gary McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Downs, Dalva Alexander, Darvin Alexander, Eddie Downs, Bryan Downs, Barry Downs, Lynn McDaniel and Mike Hampton. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 8:00 pm at Bryant Grant Funeral Home.
