Oscar Neville Crane, born December 13, 1931 to Effie Leona Miller and J. Frank Crane was a native Highlander. He was born and raised on Oak St., where the Bascom is now. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, and one sister, Clarence Levi (Bertie), Carlton W., Robert Crane and Margaret Jane C. Montague.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Spitzer Crane; they were married for 32 years; one sister, Lassie Crane Buchanan (Floyd); two brothers, Frank McCloy (Marie), Chester Lee (Fredda) Crane; two sisters‑in‑law, Sue W. Crane (the mother of Lee and David), Eloise B. Crane, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Oscar had spent his life guiding horses at Crane’s Riding Stables. After his Dad’s death, Oscar ran the stables. He also did yard work all over Highlands.
Services will be Monday, August 10, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Highlands First Baptist Church with Chaplain Ralph Campbell and Dr. Mark Ford officiating. Burial will be in Highlands Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Micah Mullarkey, Sean Mullarkey, David Crane, Harold Crane, Charlie Hicks and Gene Ramey. Honorary pallbearers will be "Smokey" Buchanan, Brooks Bennett, Baker Crane and Danny Crane. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Fidelia Eckerd Living Center, PO Box 190, Highlands, NC 28741.
