Franklin, NC - Perry Arvel Norton, 86, of Franklin, NC passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 in a local hospital. Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Fred and Hattie Howard Norton. He was a sharpshooter for the US Army during WWII; was a prison guard at Macon County Prison; shift supervisor at Belden Electric Cord for 20 years and retired from the maintenance department at the Macon County Courthouse.

Mr. Norton was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved sports and Duke Basketball. He was a faithful member of Union United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Crawford Norton; two daughters, Susan Jamison and husband David of Matthews, NC and Sandra Norton and her fiancée Jim Cooper of Clover, SC, and two grandchildren, Heather Cabe and Kevin Jamison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Bertha Hopper, Pauline Norton, Gertrude Norton and Annie Long and two brothers, Jack and Paul Norton.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Union United Methodist Church with Rev. Janet Greene, Rev. Vic Greene and Rev. Aaron Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 - 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Union United Methodist Church, c/o Lana Hires, 101 Morrison Church Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
