Ralph William Nichols

Ralph Marvin William Nichols, 90, a well respected, long time member of the Cashiers community passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, NC, after a brief illness.

Mr. Nichols came to Cashiers in 1980 upon purchasing the Cashiers Exxon. He played an iconic role in the development and overall prosperity of the community by helping to bring the first traffic light to the crossroads as well as lobbying county commissioners for the procurement of the current TWSA sewer system. Mr. Nichols donated the land to the federal government on which our local post office was built. However, his most beloved endeavors included mentoring and assisting people in our community without fanfare or recognition.

Mr. Nichols is survived by three sons, Ralph Marvin William (Bill) Nichols, Jr. of CashIers, NC; Robert Reed Nichols (Mimi) of Las Delicias, Costa Rica; and James Gill Nichols (Piya) of Cashiers, NC. Grandchildren include Misty Nichols Brewster (Travis) of Summerville, SC; Brian Thomas Nichols of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; Stephanie Sirena Nichols of Cashiers, NC; Jordan Daniel Nichols of Cashiers, NC; Gemma Domingo Nichols of Las Delicias, Costa Rica; Ty William Nichols of Cashiers, NC. Great grandchildren include Ethan Thomas Nichols of Jacksonville, FL and Cody James Brewster of Summerville, SC; and his brother, Col. Dr. Wharton A. Nichols of Tucson, AZ

The community is invited to join the family in celebration of Mr. Nichols’ life on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Fellowship with the family will begin at 1 o'clock, followed by a service at 2 o'clock at Cashiers United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cashiers/Glenville Fire Department and the Cashiers/Glenville Rescue Squad.

Bryant-Grant Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Nichols family.
