Franklin, NC - Reverend Charles Alexander Ledford, age 85 of Franklin, NC, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born July 21, 1927 in Dekalb County, Georgia, the son of the late Charles Tindell and Maybelle Alexander Ledford. He was a U S Army veteran of WWII and was an auto body repairman, a Baptist minister and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed ginseng hunting, gardening and fishing. He loved witnessing for the Lord.
He is survived by his spouse of 63 years, Lois Stockton Ledford. He is also survived by five children: Charles (Chuck) Ledford and wife Kathy of Clayton, Georgia; Sandra Miller and husband Jerry of Lancaster, SC; Karen Biddix and husband Don of Sylva, NC; Diane Shields and husband Allan and Floyd Ledford and wife Kim all of Franklin. He is survived by one brother, Larry Ledford and wife Helen of Toccoa, Georgia. He was preceded in death by an infant son, William Ernest Ledford; one brother, Doyle; two sisters, Barbara and Faye; two half brothers, Alvin and Charles W. and two half sisters, Mary Helen and Frances. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Chris Ledford, Jeff Keener, Robbie and Brandon Miller, Angie Shook, Donna Cogdill, Becky Bryson, Crystal Anders, Daniel Shields and Emily Parris. He is survived by 16 great-grandchildren: Danielle, Zane, Christopher, Jacob, Keith, Natasha, Toby, Andrew, Trevor, Paige, Trenton, Katelyn, Trinity, Elijah, Isaiah, and Olivia.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, May 26, 2013 in the chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Biddix and Rev. Alton Dendy officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Ledford, Daniel Shields, Keith Mathis, Jeff Keener, Chip Cogdill and Joey Bryson. Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will perform full military graveside rites.
