Franklin, NC - Richard "Rik" James Elliott, age 43, of Franklin, NC passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012. Born in Haywood County, he was the son of Harold E. and Brenda Cunningham Elliott. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. He was employed as computer support in the medical pharmaceutical field. He was a graduate of Enloe High School in Raleigh; attended East Carolina University and was a graduate of NC Wesleyan in Rocky Mount. He was an artist who donated a work of art to the 2011 recipient of the WNCA Esther Cunningham Award in honor of his grandmother. He loved all outdoor activities and gardening.
He is survived by five sisters, Teresa Hyatt and husband Wayne of Cary, NC; Kristin Keith and husband Bill of San Antonio, TX; Lynn Coley and husband Terry of Knightdale, NC; Jan Riggan and husband Scott of Raleigh, NC and Rachel Embler and husband Terry of Clayton, NC and one brother, Michael Elliott and wife Shari of Franklin, NC. Fourteen nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Oma Elliott and Jim and Esther Cunningham.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Backhaus and Rev. Keith Newell officiating. Burial will be in Carson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Duncan Elliott, Bruce Elliott, Chad Hyatt, Clay Chambers, Bruce Liner and Jay Williams.
The family will receive friends Thursday, from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home and other times at the residence of the parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Western North Carolina Alliance, 16 Stewart St., Franklin, NC 28734.
