Richard Arvil Mccall

Richard Arvil McCall of Cashiers, NC left his earthly body and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on the morning of Tuesday, June 4, 2024, after a nine-year battle with cancer. Son of Dovie Moss and Deputy James McCall, Richard grew up in Macon County.

He attended Southwestern Community College where he met his wife, Freda Jean Lombard. They were married for 54 years.  After graduating, Richard married Freda, built a family, and worked for Farm Bureau as a Claims Adjuster until retirement. Richard was a quiet man, a man of few words and Godly morals. He attended Cashiers Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He loved his wife and children dearly, but the joys of his life were his grandchildren. In his spare time, you could find Richard hunting, fishing, and spending time on his beautiful farm, nurturing his deer and turkey and giving his cats too many treats.

Richard is survived by his caring wife, Freda Lombard McCall, his loving sons, Jeffrey Michael McCall and wife Debbie McCall and Jason Lombard McCall and wife Sarah McCall, and five adoring grandchildren, Angela Brooke McCall and husband Micah Ray Franz, Ashleigh Ruth McCall, Jackson Lombard McCall, Hannah Warren, and Rachel Ratliff and husband Phillip Ratliff; and a sister, Margie Houston.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McCall was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Wilson and a brother, James McCall.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Cashiers Baptist Church with the Rev. Haywood Tomlin, Rev. Lewis Smith, and Rev. Scotty Patrick officiating. Burial will follow at Whiteside Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Randy Bryson, Jeff Hunter, Noel Ashe, Brad Rice, Doyle Bumgarner, and Merrit Newman.
