Richard Paschal Norton (Rick), 80, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Franklin, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026. He was born and raised in Franklin, NC, the son of the late Paschal Norton and Maybur Henson Norton.
Mr. Norton was the Housing Coordinator for Macon County and retired after 20 years of service to the citizens of Macon. He was a Staff Sargent in the US Army, and a Vietnam Combat Veteran from 1967 to 1968, and was a member of the VVA Chapter #994. He loved camping in Blue Valley and his morning breakfast at Ms. Lois' restaurant, he also loved spending time with his friends at VFW. He was a loving husband and father. And, he will be missed by all that knew him. OWASE Brother.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Louise Norton, who passed away November 11, 2017.
He is survived by his son, Darryn Norton; daughter, Kerryanne Norton; brother, David Norton (Susie), neice Laura Norton Mastrilli (Austin); and his dog, Malory.
A funeral service will be held Monday, June 1, 2026 at 2:00 pm in the Grant Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. The family will receive friends, Sunday, May 31, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Norton, Ryan Norton, James Martin, Mitchell Bishop, Tim O'Rourke and Tiger O'Rourke. Members of the VVA Chapter #994 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
All are welcome to attend graveside service as well.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the VVA Chapter 994 Scholarship Fund in his name. Rick was instrumental in starting this scholarship fund for the descendents of Vietnam Era Vets. Checks can be mailed to: VVA Chapter 994, 249 Sloan rd, franklin 28734
